Judith Zhu’s Storytelling Flowers

Well, that is what I used to call the tips for a good storytelling video.
I am talking about last clip by Judith Zhu.
First, you have to catch the audience attention. Not with a silly and dishonest marketing trick, but with an original idea.
As to put the video in horizontal vision, for example.
Second, if you are telling your story on a video, you should use images, action, music. In short, something should happen, but it’s not a movie, you have to simplify the plot in one, two minutes.
That’s exactly what miss Zhu did.
Finally, you have to leave the spectators with questions, not answers, doubts, no certainties. And I have a lot of curiosity about this work of her.
Anyway, here is what video’s description says: Shining love is as bright as flowers. People yearn for love, just like the love of flowers. However, when it comes to love, the pain will follow. In this short video, the actress have had a vigorous love. Looking at these flowers which are the symbol of her love, the struggle feeling came back in her heart. “I love you”, “I hate you” is always like the default of love. Entangled but beautiful.

Storytelling at Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation

Well, I know it is short, but this video is from a very important work made in India by Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation (Foundation of Solo Schools), a non-profit organization involved in education and village development in rural areas and tribal villages.
You can see the effort even if the clip is not a 'movie'.
We must support this.

Taino Music and Storytelling by Irka Mateo

Today I discovered a very fascinating and interesting artist.
Her name is Irka Mateo and she is a Dominican singer, songwriter and world music artist.
From Wikipedia: Her artistic career has been one of breaking boundaries and embracing people’s deepest humanity especially through their music.
The video you are going to watch shows her work at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian on Taíno (an Arawak people who were indigenous peoples of the Caribbean) and their music and storytelling.
Telling stories and making music to meet other worlds, that is wonderful.

Storytelling for Memory Care Facilities

Stories and memories, two words that perfectly link each other, isn't it?
This is the reason why I think that what storyteller Glenda Bonin does is perfect.
She is an artist from Tucson, Arizona (USA) and in the following clip she shows the importance of her storytelling work to entertain and encourage memory recall for seniors, as description says.

African Storytelling at School

Today I share with you this interesting video where Beth Seletos and Karen Hall teach their J.W. Mitchell High School students about African Storytelling with a fun has-on learning experience, clip offered by Pasco County Schools channel, from Florida.
I think it is a very good example of how students could make experience of world storytelling at school.

Improvisation and Storytelling

I am very happy to close the week with a nice video by an original storytelling group, Atlantis Improv.
They use theatre improvisation to tell stories and I think this is a great idea.
In my humble opinion, this makes live storytelling more exciting, for actors and for audience too.
Here is some info from the clip description: Our 1st game from The Liber Arte Cantina Cultural Show on 8th February 2015. In this game, the improviser must continue the story without hesitation and exactly where the last improviser has left off. Any mistakes and the audience can shout 'Die' at which point the improviser is out of the game.

In my humble opinion, that is a perfect way to teach a foreign language.
Above all if you have such a good storyteller as a teacher.

Fear Experiment Storytelling Video

That's a happy surprise.
While I am preparing the nine edition of my storytelling festival - next year will be on the diversity of fear, I found this wonderful work about fear too, shared by Saya Hillman.
Very very interesting, read and watch carefully.

As a way to experience personal growth and to meet others, strangers apply to learn an art-form -- dance, improv, storytelling, stepping, or a capella -- over three months, in preparation to perform in front of hundreds.
The criteria to participate?1) Something about the experience has to scare you. Because when you challenge yourself to do something out of the proverbial comfort zone, beautiful things happen.
2) You have to sign up solo. No roommate, best friend, significant other as a security blanket.
These are the storytellers of Fear Experiment, including a representative from the Do Good Partner, The Cara Program, Andrea. Cara helps adults overcome homelessness and unemployment through training programs.

In July 2014, a group of young people joined a storytelling and peacemaking workshop at the St Lioba Monastery, in Egmond, The Netherlands (School for Peace).

The group consisted of 8 Arab and Jewish Israeli/Palestinians, amongst young people from several countries across Europe.

Organised by the International School for Storytelling and Peace (ISSP).

The International School for Storytelling and Peace wants to contribute to a more peaceful world by training people in telling- and listening to stories and in using storytelling as a tool to avoid separation and to increase mutual understanding, acceptance and respect in order to solve conflicts.

The International School for Storytelling and Peace is based in Amsterdam but works and initiates projects all around the world.
